The National Electricity Market (NEM) is responsible for supplying around 80 per cent of Australia’s energy needs. The market includes more than 40,000km of transmission lines across four states (New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland).
At a time when Australian customers are demanding lower power bills and Australia is transitioning to a greater number of renewable energy options, the proposed interconnector has been identified by ElectraNet as a way to meet these needs.
Project EnergyConnect is a joint project between South Australia's electricity transmission network provider ElectraNet and New South Wales’ transmission network provider TransGrid. The Project involves building a 900km-long interconnector between South Australia and New South Wales with an added connection into Victoria.
