As reported in The Murray Pioneer - 'Riverlanders can provide assistance and feedback regarding the proposed construction of a power interconnector through the region at information hubs set up by energy contractor ElectraNet. Interactive iPads can now be found at numerous public outlets across the Riverland, which can be used by locals to discuss any social or environmental issues surrounding project EnergyConnect.
ElectraNet team members visited Renmark and Berri recently to share information with and collect feedback from locals about the proposed interconnector. These sessions provided the opportunity for community members to provide input into the method being used to identify the best route for the proposed new transmission line.
The community drop in sessions were a hive of activity. Staff, including ElectraNet’s Communications Manager Megan Lloyd (right), were kept busy talking to locals, including Renmark Paringa Council Mayor Neil Martinson (left).
A 900km continuous transmission line is a significant distance. This gives us all the more reason to make sure the process used to decide on the final route is robust, rigorous and provides opportunity for early and meaningful local input.
Stakeholder and community participation is critical to helping us finalise the interconnector route and the Project EnergyConnect team is committed to open and transparent engagement with stakeholders and the community during all stages of the project.
